The festivities of San Salvador are considered the most important of El Salvador festivals, since held in the nation’s capital. These festivals are celebrated in honour of the divine Savior Savior of the world, from 1 to 6 August of each year.
It is customary to give a full week’s holiday for employees and students. for public employees only is granted as leave the most important days of the Festival, on 5 and 6 August.
In the main days of the feast (August 5) is a procession that starts with the image of Christ from the Basilica of the sacred heart of Jesus, to the Metropolitan Cathedral of San Salvador; where is an act of commemoration of the Transfiguration of Jesus to his disciples on Mount Tabor.
It is considered as one of the oldest in El Salvador festivals, since according to historical records, this feast was celebrated long before the arrival of the Spanish in our lands.
